Workshop Descriptions

Beginning Financial Management:

Prerequisite: Must know Excel.
This 4 hour workshop is a good place to start with compiling financial projections. It includes formulated spreadsheets that help create your budgets. Learn how to forecast sales and revenue, create a cash flow budget, determine time to secure funding, use financial statements to develop business plans, make better management decisions and set financial performance goals.

Business Planning for Success:

Participants will learn the basics of developing a comprehensive Business Plan for their business start-up, expansion or financing. They will also receive information about how to access small business assistance from the SBDC and other state and local resources.

Copyright & Trademark:

This class will round out your understanding of the interrelationships of intellectual property law.

Insurance Basics:

This class will answer important questions that many small business owners may have, such as: What insurance do you really need? What are the differences between group and individual policies? How do I compare different plans? These questions and many more will be covered in depth.

Relationship Selling:

This workshop will arm you and your sales team with the knowledge and skills to generate sales beyond your wildest expectations. Here's a selection of what you'll learn: how the sales process should flow, how to get the customer to sell themselves, and how to ask for the sale. Conversion techniques, rapport building skills and communications strategies are also discussed to cover the full spectrum of successful relationship selling!

Right Start I: First Step - Select Your Business Type:

An early morning two-hour workshop that covers business registration and forms, business entity-type selection and other timely tips every prospective entrepreneur needs before starting a new business venture.

Right Start II; Taxes and Recordkeeping:

Kevin Dryg, CPA, will present step-by-step guidelines for business record keeping and tax filing (including sales, use tax and payroll taxes) for different start-up entities.

Right Start DOCS:

This workshop will discuss the importance of By-laws/Operating Agreements, Buy/See Agreements, Articles of Incorporation/Organization, Subscription Agreements and Stock Certificates for multi-owner businesses.

Selling Your Uniqueness:

This workshop will guide your understanding of your unique selling proposition - the thing that sets you apart from your competitors. Zero in on your real point of difference and learn how to use it! Discover how to set yourself apart in the eyes of your customer. Find out what unparalleled businesses do differently and how it works for them. There has never been a better time to start using your uniqueness to your advantage.

Small Business Marketing:

This is a workshop for existing and startup businesses. This workshop covers getting to know your customers, competition and industry, positioning your business for success, developing smart marketing strategies, and developing a marketing plan.

Social Media – A Starting Point:

Get up to speed by learning what social media is and why it is important. Find out about the tools of social media such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, blogging and social bookmarking. Learn about the powerful social media marketing plan to experience powerful results.

Systemize Your Business:

Join us in exploring the most important concepts of the most important business book you could read: The E-Myth Revisited by Michael Gerber. The E-Myth Revisited explains "the almost magical opportunities available to anyone who starts a small business in the right way, with a true understanding, with the necessary tools." At the end of this course you will have an understanding of the Turn-Key Revolution and the Business Development Process.

The Changing World of Advertising:

This fun class will help you learn effective methods to increase sales and awareness of your company both locally and regionally without breaking the bank. Also covered are the pros and cons of different advertising media; including print, E-media and broadcast outlets in northern Colorado. What’s more is that you will know when each type of advertising is most effective, common sense steps in creating an advertising/ marketing budget and how to brand your products and your company by leveraging your core values across your marketing campaign.
